Which platforms should you choose?
The first thing to identify are the platforms that you should have your brand on. How do you do this? Well, start thinking about your ideal customer. Who is he/her? What do they do? What age bracket do they belong to? What kind of things do they like? Based on that, you can start thinking about which platforms would these people ideally be on. Then, cross-check your assumptions against data. Facebook has an amazing audience insights tool in your business manager that could tell you a lot about your audience. From age brackets to gender and a lot more, learn exactly what your audience looks like. Similarly, the LinkedIn’s campaign manager let’s you see how many people belong in your audience set based on the characteristics that you decide.
What kind of content should you use?
The next question when starting your social media marketing activity is what kind of content would work? Well, there are a couple of things that you can use in this. 1) Google Trends: go to trends.google.com, select your region and industry and see what people are interested in these days. This would give you a solid idea about what to post on your social media profiles. 2) Industry Research: Check what other people in your industry are doing, what kind of topics are they covering? That could give you a good inspiration about what to create for your audience.
The third thing to do is to understand the fact that organic is now almost dead. Yes, you read that right. Reaching people organically, specially on a new page/profile is almost impossible. So, no matter how good or relevant your content is, if it is not reaching the right kind of people through a paid push, it won’t really do a lot. So, no matter how small, but at least have a paid push attached to your social media marketing activity.
